Period Tea Talks – Birth Control: Supporting your daughter through puberty

Birth Control: Supporting your daughter through puberty
Join Marisa Shearer, Menstrual Health Therapist, for a supportive Period Tea Talk on birth control and navigating puberty with your daughter.
Has your teen been told “just go on the pill” for painful periods, heavy bleeding, acne, or mood swings?
But what’s really happening in the body during puberty? And are there other questions we should be asking?
Know that you’re not alone and you may have questions.
In this free community conversation, we’ll explore what hormonal birth control does (and doesn’t do), how the brain–ovary communication system develops during puberty, and how to feel more confident supporting your daughter through this stage.
During our time together, we’ll talk about:
  • Why the pill is often prescribed so quickly
  • What it actually does (and doesn’t do)
  • The development of the HPO axis (the brain–ovary communication system) during puberty
  • Why symptoms happen in the first place
  • How fertility awareness can be used as a natural form of birth control and as a diagnostic tool to better understand what’s happening in the body
  • How to ask better questions and explore informed options so you understand what choices your daughter truly has
  • Ways to help your daughter feel heard, empowered, and supported
So many parents feel unsure about what’s best.
So many teens feel brushed off or unheard.
And most families are left wondering: “Do we really have no other options?”
This is a safe space to ask questions, learn, and have open conversations without pressure, shame, or fear.

This free 45 minute talk is followed by a Q&A session with tea and snacks.
