Deborah Lane is a recent addition to the practitioner team at The Centre.
Deborah is professionally registered and Accredited Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist (MBACP (Accred)), qualified at Masters level, specialising in work with children, adolescents, young people  (aged 4-25), and their families.

Deborah has over 10 years of experience of working in educational, therapeutic and charitable settings, including working for Step by Step, a Mindworks Surrey CAMHS delivery partner. In addition to private practice, Deborah visits children in local schools, and manages and delivers a counselling service in an Independent School in Haslemere, supporting children in nursery through to sixth form.

Deborah offers a warm, friendly and compassionate approach, working collaboratively with children and young people to build a trusting therapeutic relationship.  As an integrative therapist, she draws upon a range of creative arts and play resources which can be used to facilitate communication beyond the constraints of language so that difficulties and inner conflicts can be expressed, witnessed, and understood in developmentally appropriate and paced ways. Her core foundation is rooted in non-directive play-based therapy, humanistic, psychodynamic and CBT approaches, grounded in a core understanding of attachment and family systems.

Deborah has a specialist interest in nature-based therapeutic approaches, and her research in this area has been published in the Journal of Counselling and Psychotherapy Research (March 2022) .  Deborah believes passionately in integrating nature-based approaches to support wellbeing and offers outdoor individual and group sessions for children, as well as walk and talk, reflective space sessions for parents and carers.

Deborah works with a broad range of presentations including anxiety, school avoidance, OCD, depression, low-mood, emotional regulation, trauma, bereavement, family separation, attachment difficulties, low self-esteem, eco- and climate anxiety, self-harm and disordered eating.

Her private practice covers Haslemere, Hindhead, Grayshott and Petersfield.
